SSD, SAS, & SATA for Unmatched Tiered Storage
The SM120 provides reliable and versatile storage expansion for Nimbus H-class storage systems. Engineered for high-availability, the SM120 offers end-to-end redundancy, including hot-swap power supplies, IO modules, and fans. With 80% fewer components and 70% lower power consumption than clustered storage systems, the SM120 reduces datacenter operating costs and maximizes drive life by substantially reducing heat and vibration within the enclosure. With FlexScale technology, each drive bay supports SATA, SAS, or SSD drives, enabling organizations to mix storage tiers even within the same enclosure. Unlike clustered arrays, the SM120 uses SAS, a low-latency high-bandwidth interface, for connecting to the H-class system. This approach provides 4x greater performance and 85% lower latency than clustered arrays while reducing cabling requirements and cost per TB as capacity is added.

Superior Thermal and Vibration Features
The SM120 draws a mere 85 W of power, comparable to a household lightbulb, and 80% less than clustered storage arrays. Dramatically fewer components means less heat is generated, reducing fan speed and enclosure vibration. This results in a 12 degrees Celsius drop in enclosure temperature, increasing drive life beyond competing designs.
On-demand and Versatile Storage Expansion
Based on the Nimbus FlexScale architecture, the SM120 supports virtually any arrangement of drives in the same enclosure for maximum flexibility. Mix SATA, SAS, and SSD drives in the same enclosure, side-by-side, to maximize storage utilization and optimize your storage classes of service with unprecedented control.
High-bandwidth, Low-latency SAS Interconnect
The SM120 provides multiple 12 Gbps Serial Attached SCSI ports for connecting to the storage system and up to two subsequent SM120 enclosures. SAS not only provides 12x more bandwidth than Gigabit Ethernet (used by clustered storage systems), it also features 85% low latency for superior response times.
Fault-tolerant User-serviceable Design
The SM120 features fully redundant components, including IO modules, power supplies, and fans. The design is completely tool-less, so users can swap out components in the field with ease. An available spares kit includes one FRU of each component, a more cost-effective and responsive alternative to onsite support.
